MATCH REPORT: SAWBRIDGEWORTH TOWN 0-3 ENFIELD

E’s see off Sawbridgeworth to stroll to opening day victory

Enfield kicked off the new season in style with a convincing 3-0 win away at Sawbridgeworth. Goals from new signings Danny Norton and Usman Adeniji as well as one from Louie Johnson helped the E’s towards three points at Crofters.

The E’s handed debuts to three new signings in Nnamdi Harold-Egole, Norton and Adeniji, who all started in the midfield five alongside Jeffrey Cobblah and Alex Warman.Meanwhile, Mohamed Amghar also made his debut off the bench.

Seven minutes into proceedings, Enfield created the first chance of the match. Cobblah latched onto the loose ballinside the Sawbridgeworth penalty area before being denied by George Edgeworth. The rebound fell to Norton, whose shot was off-target.

The visitors continued to threaten moments later after Warman’s corner fell to Adeniji but Edgeworth gathered his effort. Despite their dominant start, the E’s had done very little to trouble the goalkeeper as Warman played the corner short to Cobblah, who struck his shot over the bar.

However, Enfield’s patience was finally rewarded on 28 minutes as they broke the deadlock. The ball fell kindly into the path of Norton with the midfielder’s low driven strike finding the bottom corner. Having signed from Bowers & Pitsea over the summer, new signing Norton opened his account for the season.

It soon got even better for the visitors as just four minutes later, they doubled their advantage. Cobblah made a darting run down the left-hand side before crossing towards Johnson at the backpost, leaving the forward tap into an empty net.

Five minutes before half-time and Enfield nearly added a third. Kieran Bishop combined well with Norton, but the latter struck his shot wayward. Nonetheless, the E’s went in at the break two goals to the good and were very much in control of proceedings.

The away side continued where they left off in the second half and looked to extend their lead. Cobblah set up Johnson, but Edgeworth was down to make the save. Seconds later and Warman’s corner was headed away into the path of Cobblah, whose long-range effort crashed back off the crossbar.

It wasn’t long before the E’s added a third with another debutant getting on the scoresheet. The ball was crossed towards an unmarked Usman Adeniji, who drilled the ball into the back of the Sawbridgeworth net.

With ten minutes to go, Enfield came close to scoring a fourth. Bishop latched onto the loose ball inside the penalty area, but his shot was kept out by Edgeworth. However, it proved to be a comfortable victory for the E’s on a relatively stress-free afternoon.
