MATCH PREVIEW: ENFIELD V WEST ESSEX

Enfield will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to nine games when they welcome West Essex to the R&D Advisors Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

This match is the E’s first at home in well over a month having played four away games on the spin but make a long-awaited return to home comforts where Jamie Cureton’s men have had a near perfect home record this season. In their previous match, the E’s won 2-0 at local rivals Stansted thanks to goals from Aaron Greene and Solomon Ofori in the first ten minutes and will be hoping for a similar result against the Stags.

Opposition: West Essex

West Essex are the next team to face Enfield as they make the short journey across the M11 to take on the Essex Senior League leaders. The Stags currently sit 8th in the table on 37 points having won 11 out of 23 matches this term. Having made a strong start to the season and competing near the top, West Essex have had a slight dip in form which has seen them fall away from the likes of Redbridge and Clacton in the race for 2nd. West Essex fell to a disappointing 4-2 defeat at home to Barking in their last match.

Nonetheless, the Stags are a side that should not be taken lightly and have the players which can cause Enfield some problems. Callum Bloss and Cameron Gray have been key for West this season and both have found have found the back of the net on numerous occasions. However, the two will need to be at their best if they are to break down an E’s defence that has been breached just 17 times in the league.

Previous meetings

This is the second meeting between the two sides this season with the last coming back in October. The E’s won 1-0, which at the time was an important three points on the road. A first half goal from Danny Norton proved the difference in what was a closely fought encounter. Last season, Enfield completed a league double over the Stags, winning 1-0 away from home thanks to a late Kieran Bishop strike. Meanwhile, at home, Dwade James bagged a hat-trick as the E’s picked up an impressive 6-1 victory, something they will be looking to repeat this time round.

Player to watch – Aaron Greene

Aaron Greene has been in excellent form for Enfield of late and will be hoping to continue it into Saturday’s match against West Essex. Greene has netted three goals in three matches for the E’s including a brace in the 6-1 win at Buckhurst Hill. The midfielder also scored last week against Stansted with a well taken finish and has proven a constant threat down the left-hand side. Greene could prove the difference once again to help the E’s maintain their grip at the top of the table.
