MATCH REPORT: ENFIELD 6-1 WEST ESSEX

Enfield returned to winning ways in the league with a comfortable 6-1 victory over West Essex. Alfie Mason opened the scoring before a hat-trick from Dwade James as well as a Samrai Gebrai brace helped the home side towards a convincing three points.

The E’s started the match the stronger of the two sides and it took them just three minutes to make the breakthrough. The ball fell to Alfie Mason as the left-back’s long-range effort found the back of the net. A stunning goal from Mason to mark his first goal for the club.

Six minutes later, Enfield came close to doubling their advantage. Ryan Ramsay played a perfectly timed through ball into the path of Dwade James, whose shot was wide from a tight angle. Shortly after, James had another chance to score but drew a good save out of goalkeeper Dan Russell.

Meanwhile, up the other end, West Essex had their first real attempt on goal, but Mohamud Kaudker’s attempt proved easy for James Bransgrove. A few moments later, the visitors had another opportunity, but Symeon Taylor’s curling effort was wide.

However, with 19 minutes on the clock, Enfield made it 2-0 and it was that man, Dwade James. Following some brilliant build up play from Samrai Gebrai, the winger played a delightful assist into the striker, who notched his 13th goal of the season.

Just eight minutes after scoring, James netted his second and Enfield’s third of the night and in similar fashion to the first. The ball was played long towards James as he raced away past the West Essex defence before slotting into the bottom corner.

The E’s continued to dominate the first half and had a chance to score a fourth but Gebrai headed just wide from Alex Warman’s corner. Two minutes before the break though and the away side squandered a big opportunity. Samraj Gill pulled the ball across goal as Emmanuel Oluwule put the ball over from close range.

The home side started the second half how they ended the first as three minutes in, James crossed towards substitute Louie Johnson, which then fell to Reece Conway as the captain’s attempt was blocked.

Nonetheless, a minute later, James completed his hat-trick, making it 4-0 to the E’s. Gebrai played a great ball into James’ path, who rounded Russell before slotting in an empty net. Another excellent move from the hosts with James now taking his goal tally to 15.

Not long after, Gebrai almost added a fifth for the hosts, but he was denied by Russell. Meanwhile, West Essex nearly pulled a goal back as the ball fell to Kaudker at the backpost but Bransgrove was there to make a fantastic save.

Despite comfortably leading 4-0, Enfield continued to threaten in front of goal as Gebrai fed the ball into Johnson with Russell there to deny the forward. With a little over an hour played, Ramsay made space for a shot, but his effort was comfortable for the goalkeeper.

In the 69th minute, the home side continued the scoring feat by adding a fifth. Gebrai made a phenomenal run towards goal before rolling the ball in to score his first for the club. Four minutes later, Gebrai added another one to wrap up the three points as he fired home from close range for 6-0.

In the closing stages of the match, West Essex pulled a goal back as substitute Andre Oduku found the top right corner with a stunning finish though it had very little effect on the outcome. In the end, Enfield ran out 6-1 winners to secure a much-needed victory.
